Inspiring & Enabling Youth to Realize Their Greatness!
Boys & Girls Clubs Need You!
General Volunteer and Internship Information
Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County (BGCTC) offers many volunteer and internship opportunities that allow individuals to support and make a difference in the lives of local youth and teens by sharing their time and talents.
During the school year, Clubs are available for volunteers/interns during weekdays between 3:00 - 5:30 PM. Opportunities include engaging with Club youth through tutoring, playing board games, art projects and other recreational activities.
How To Become A Volunteer
Interested individuals can complete and submit the online Volunteer Application. You must include three professional references for your application to be considered complete. Professional references include supervisors, professional colleagues, teachers/professors, athletic coaches, etc.
All volunteers and interns must complete a comprehensive screening and training before their involvement with any Club. The process is outlined below:
1. Professional reference checks will be completed.
2. Background screenings will be completed. This includes local, state-wide, and national background checks for criminal history and sex-offender registry.
3. 45-minute Volunteer/Intern Orientation to understand important policies and expectations of volunteers/interns.
4. 45–minute online training to inform volunteers/interns of important practices when assisting our youth-serving organization.
Please allow up to three weeks for your application to be processed.
If you have questions, please contact volunteer@bgctc.org or call 360-956-0755.
Special Event or One-Time Volunteer Opportunities
Boys and Girls Clubs of Thurston County offers one-time volunteer event opportunities for our corporate and community partners and groups. These opportunities might include annual special events hosted by our fundraising team or customized Club projects to fit a group’s desired volunteer request.
Customized opportunities typically last 3-5 hours and are completed within the operational hours of our Club sites. Projects range from Club beautification (planting flowers, painting murals) and Club supply drives to literacy activities with Club youth. If you are interested in hosting a special volunteer event, contact volunteer@bgctc.org or call 360-956-0755.
Academic Success
We want every child to graduate from high school with a plan for the future. Our members have resources such as:
- Homework help in the education center
- Reading and writing clubs
- Programs in the tech lab and various art projects
We also have many volunteers who help mentor our club members.
Character & Citizenship
Every day, our members are taught about:
- Being respectful
- Being responsible
- Having integrity in their lives and interactions with others
We maintain these expectations not just for our kids, but also for our staff and volunteers, whose leadership and mentoring help guide our young people by example.
Healthy Lifestyles
We want children to live healthy, active lifestyles and practice making good decisions for themselves. In order to achieve this, we:
- Serve nutritious food for snack sand dinners
- Encourage kids to play sports and be active
- Help them find new ways to communicate in the art and music rooms
- Make sure they are surrounded by great mentors
