Lilly Wilson Named 2023 BGCTC Youth of the Year
Black Hills High School freshman, Lilly Wilson, representing the Tumwater Branch, was named the 2023 Youth of the Year of Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County at the organization's annual community celebration held February 3. She earned the Youth of the Year title by competing alongside nominees representing three Thurston County Club locations.
Lilly now advances to the Washington State Youth of the Year competition (being held March 23 at Bell Harbor International Event Center) and possible regional and national competitions, with scholarships awarded at various levels of advancement. Each competing Club member in the Youth of the Year program has to meet academic and community service requirements, write essays, submit letters of endorsement, and prepare and present a speech about their experiences.
Lilly gave a heartwarming and inspiring speech about the impact her Club experience has on her life.
“The Boys & Girls Club has always supported me, and I am proud to be part of it. I know that as I continue on in life, the experiences I've gained here will be with me throughout my life.”
Lilly works to make sure everyone feels seen and heard. She volunteers her time with the younger members and enjoys being a clubmate and leader among her peers. Lilly hopes to work at Club when she gets older, to be a positive influence in the Club and make as as big an impact as the staff that have been there for her.
