Building Great Futures at the 2022 Foundation for the Future Breakfast

Community members helped build #GREATFUTURES for youth at the 2022 Foundation for the Future Breakfast on May 12th. The event was in-person and back at Saint Martin's University for the first time since 2019. Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County (BGCTC) Club kids and staff enthusiastically welcomed guests back to the annual fundraising event with cheers and smiles at the door.

The morning was a success thanks to the tremendous support from guests who rose to the challenge issued by CEO, Chris Woods. During his welcome, Woods challenged the room stating that if 80% of event attendees made a donation, he would be riding a tricycle from BGCTC Administrative Offices to the Tumwater Branch.

The results are in and 82% of guests made a donation to the breakfast. So, mark your calendars to help cheer on BGCTC CEO, Chris Woods, on July 8th. He will start his journey at 11 a.m. Contact Tami Collins at tcollins@bgctc.org to learn how you can support his ride!

More highlights from the event included the involvement of three Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year, Johanna Chhay, Cara Chiokai, and Alizabeth Ashton. Each shared stories of the impact the Clubs have had on their lives. Outgoing members of the Board of Directors were recognized for their work with the organization. Those recognized for their board service included Christie Agtarap, Carrie Benjamin, Heather Burgess, Melissa Gombosky, Mike McKinnon, Lisa Miles, Jace Munson, Chad Sutter, and Michelle Wickett.

This year's Governor's Leadership for Youth Award went to Steve and Michele Boone for their long-time commitment to the Clubs.  The Governor's Leadership for Youth Award began in 2007 to honor and recognize community members who put kids first in their personal and/or professional lives.
